RIBA House of the Year 2023 shortlist: The best houses in Britain
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced the six shortlisted houses for the RIBA House of the Year 2023 award. The annual award celebrates excellence and innovation in home design by crowning the "best example of a one-off house designed by an architect in the UK."
Comprised of six stunning properties, the 2023 shortlist focuses on the importance of collaboration through the client and architect relationship. Simultaneously, both localism and sustainability form a leitmotif of this year's awards. Designs that take conscious steps towards reducing any negative impact on the surrounding environment are at the heart of the shortlist.
Dido Milne, chair of the jury awarding the prize, said of this year's shortlist: "Localism is a recurring theme, with architects engaging with the local vernacular without being slaves to tradition, and local sourcing of materials targeting both embodied and operational carbon to deliver genuinely sustainable design."
