Seeking more space for herself and her daughter, iconic interior designer Rita Konig has transformed her existing London apartment by purchasing the upstairs flat. Combining the two spaces, Rita has created an inventive, beautiful base filled with practical touches. Below, we dive into the items that make the flat so special.
In the hall
Opening up from the sitting room, the hall is a grand space. Previously the site of her dining room, by extending the house's square footage with the upstairs flat, Rita could afford to transform the room. Mia Rey's 'Ainu' wallpaper pairs wonderfully with red wool curtains from Schumacher, whilst the ‘Chelsea’ table from her Oficina Inglesa collaboration takes centre stage, used for drinks.
In the kitchen
All that remains as evidence of Rita's old bedroom are the heavy wool C&C Milano striped curtains that line the large bay windows. The space is now an expansive kitchen-cum-dining room, with a 10-seat dining table (the ‘Oxford’ from Rita's Oficina Inglesa' collaboration) and a smart Plain English kitchen. The walls are lined with Antoinette Poison's pretty 'Petite Indienne' wallpaper and the paint colour on the floor-to-ceiling joinery is ‘Flummery’ from Rita's Plain English paint line.
In the downstairs loo
In this jewel-box of a downstairs loo, Rita has made employed Antoinette Poisson's ‘Torrent 72A’ wallpaper to dazzling effect. On the ceiling is Farrow & Ball's ‘Etruscan Red’ and the cornice is painted in ‘Toad 235’ by Little Greene.
In the sitting room
The sofa, with its recognisable 'Le Zebre' linen upholstery by Brunschwig & Fils, remains from the previous flat's incarnation. It is paired with walls papered in ochre linen, trimmed with a smart grosgrain ribbon from Samuel & Son. The coffee table is from Rita's ongoing collaboration with The Lacquer Company.
In another angle of the sitting room, two directional tables from The Lacquer Company make a charming focal point.
In Rita's study
Rita's study is one of the bolder spaces in the flat, with walls wrapped in Schumacher's ‘Terry’ print in navy and red. On the ceiling, simple tongue and groove panelling balances the room. Much of the furniture is antique, with a mid-century chair and desk from Quindry positioned in the middle of the room. The rug was sourced in Morocco.
In Rita's bedroom
In Rita's bedroom, the walls are papered in Rita's 'Serena Garland' for Schumacher, which tone with a rug from Joshua Lumley. A chest of drawers from Howe London beside the bed bears a blue lamp from Adam Bray. A grand bed takes up much of the space, with bedcurtains in 'Lovelust Linen' in snowcap and gold for the trim, from S Harris. The 'Rattan Templeton' dressing table and stool are from Soane.
