The Omaze houses are always magnificent, whether it's a space-age lateral mansion in Exmouth or a traditional country pile in Yorkshire, but the latest offering in the Lake District is particularly spellbinding. On the shore of Coniston Water (with its own private jetty jutting into the water), this £4 million pad has four bedrooms, an oak-clad summerhouse and a vast spa. As if that wasn't enough of a draw, the team has dressed the house up in festive finery, so it's looking particularly perky.
Set amongst tall pines and greenery at the edge of Grizedale Forest and beneath the peaks of the Old Man of Coniston, this two-story house oak and slate house looks like something out of a Disney film. Despite its remote, sanctuary feel, it's also very close to lively Coniston village, as well as Cartmel and Windermere, which both have Michelin Star restaurants to their name.
Inside, the house is decorated in a neutral, modern style, though it's probably a little less modernist and minimalist than many of Omaze's recent offerings. The neat dining area has a round, family table and boucle tub chairs, but the biggest pull are the awesome views over Coniston Water. Set behind the dining room, the kitchen is fashioned from light oak, marble and porcelain, and features all of the state-of-the-art appliances for cooking every day or entertaining large parties.
The lounge has a gable window (with, of course, more views over the lake) that leads onto a charming balcony. The high, vaulted ceilings in oak add to the cosy, American feel, as does the roaring fire.
There are four comfortable bedrooms upstairs, decorated in neutral, earth tones to fit in with the gold and green lake and trees beyond. The main adjoining bathroom is particularly appealing, designed in micro-cement and adorned with tropical plants.
The star of the show is probably the spa, which would be more suited to a high-end hotel than a private house, but we don't think you'll be complaining. Comprising a wood-lined sauna and a treatment room with a Himalayan salt wall, the spa also has a direct route through to the garden and lake beyond. Just next to the spa is a dimly lit, timber and stone gym, kitted out with all the best equipment. The gym then leads to the outdoor barrel hot tub which looks out over the treetops.
Whilst a lot of your time outside will undoubtedly be spent exploring the neighbouring lake and forests, the private garden features a large and fully functioning outdoor kitchen and dining area, perfect for summer parties. Follow the garden around and you'll find the Broughton slate outdoor ‘snug’ area with an outdoor fireplace.
In a separate building is the summer house, decorated in oak panelling, with lovely soft sofas and armchairs in fur and velvet for maximum cosiness. This could also function as a separate little guest room.
