1 Hotel Mayfair is a plant lover's oasis in the middle of one of London's glitziest and most central shopping destinations. Not only is it a hop away from Green Park, ideal for quiet morning walks by Buckingham Palace, the Ritz (one of the best restaurants in London for afternoon tea) and Regent Street, but inside the hotel feels like a complete sanctuary. It's also one of the most dog friendly hotels we've seen in the area. Your four-legged friend is welcome in all venues until 5pm, which includes Tom Seller's Dovetale, Dover Yard and the all-day Neighbours Cafe, located in the hotel lobby. After 5pm, you can still dine with your dog at Dovetale, as long as it's in the beautiful covered terrace. My dog Loki ran straight for the plush William Morris dog bed on arrive to our suite in the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. Complete with William Morris dog toy, Mandarin Oriental branded dog bowels and filtered water, everything about the ‘Pawfect Stays’ package is in line with the five-star hotel's level of luxury (it's one of the fanciest and best hotels in London). Downstairs, the hotel's eccentric Japanese izakaya and cocktail bar The Aubrey is dog friendly over weekends complete with a dedicated dog brunch menu (Loki opted for flaked Norwegian salmon with rice and peas, followed by peanut butter biscuits for dessert), though you'll have to keep the pup in the room if you're planning to dine at Heston Blumenthal's two-Michelin star ‘Dinner’. But the best draw of all has got to be having Hyde Park on your doorstep. The brains behind Cliveden House and Chewton Glen (home to one of our favourite luxury treehouse stays) opened this elegant Georgian townhouse hotel in the heart of Mayfair in 2021 and it's the ideal spot for exploring the best of London with your pooch. Dogs have full access to the hotel, including The Dandy Bar and restaurant. There are dog-friendly amenities inside the bedrooms too–from dog beds to bowls, snacks, squeaky toys and a dog robe. Early morning walks are best placed in Green Park which is a two minute walk away from the hotel. It's not every day you can stroll to Buckingham Palace before the crowds roll in. - Tal Dekel-Daks

Nicola Harding designed hotel The Mitre sits right on the edge of the River Thames. It was originally built around 1665 at the behest of Charles II, to house overspill from the palace across the road. When it comes to dog-friendliness, the stylish South West London hotel has nine dog-friendly rooms to choose from on the ground floor, all with access to the courtyard for getting outside quickly. You can also dine with your dog in the Coppernose, Orangery and Terraces, the only non dog-friendly dining destination is the 1665 Brasserie.

This 14th-century inn, which is one of our all-time favourite country pubs with rooms, has welcomed guests into its hallowed rooms since 1377 (King Charles I and Oliver Cromwell were hosted guests). Standing grandly in the middle of honey-hued Broadway, the Tardis-like hotel is within easy reach of the charming Cotswolds village's cutesy shops, tearooms and galleries – many of which are dog-friendly. Inside, find roaring open fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, two restaurants and a grand Victorian swimming pool and spa. When it comes to dog-friendliness, staff go above and beyond to make your dog feel welcome, with treat bowls dotted in various cosy corners of the public areas, then waiting in your bedroom find bowls, dog beds and more treats. Roaring log fires and honey-hued exteriors go hand in hand with dazzlingly bright floral wallpaper and burnt orange headboards at this idyllic Oxfordshire hideaway – less than a two hour drive from London. Newly renovated in 2021, the 17th-century Cotswolds coaching inn, formerly known as The Plough, makes for a perfect retreat for a weekend exploring the best of the Cotswolds. You’re staying in the lovely village of Clanfield, a few minutes away from Bampton (where much of Downton Abbey is filmed) or Kelmscott Manor, once home to William Morris. Nestled within 107 acres of national parkland and perched on the bank of the North Teign River, Gidleigh Park's seclusion offers an idyllic escape for any city dweller. The main house, a Tudor Revival building dating from the 1920s, overlooks immaculate lawns with the river acting as a horizon line, glistening at the bottom of the grounds. Dogs can stay in either four heated kennels, in Lydford (a deluxe garden view room), Bellever (a master room) or in the 'The Pavilion', a self-contained thatched cottage, which offers guests complete privacy just a short stroll away from the hotel and other facilities. Designer Carole Roberts worked in close collaboration with current owners, Andrew and Christina Brownsword, on the decoration scheme throughout.
